Living With The What Ifs

What if my health gets worse and I cannot work even part-time?  What if I can’t take care of my children the way I want to?  What if I cannot pay the doctor’s bills?  What if we lose our medical insurance?  What if I never get better?  What if people judge me?

Have you ever caught yourself playing the “What If”‘ game?  It is a destructive game that makes things worse.  It increases anxxiety, makes us tense, and weakens our immune system.  These thoughts are not reality, but worse case fears.  We cannot live like that.

We also have the reassurance that God is with us no matter what comes our way.

We have to give up control of wanting to know what’s going to happen in the future.  When these what ifs take over try confronting them with positive statements.  What if God promises strength in my weakness   (2 Cor. 12:9-10)  What if God says He will never leave or forsake me? (Heb. 13:5)

“We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”  (2 Cor. 10:5)
